Due to several requests we have decided to run this event again this year.
Tyneham village was evacuated in December 1943 for military training during the second world war and the village has been deserted ever since, but many of the buildings survive and the church (still used for occasional services) and the school now house excellent exhibitions about the village and villagers. Please note that the exhibitions in Tyneham school and Tyneham church are open from 10am until 4pm when the village is open to the public.
A short walk (1 mile) from the village leads to the spectacular Worbarrow Bay which is part of the Jurassic Coast.
The village, bay and the Lulworth Ranges are now managed by the Ministry of Defence and therefore access is limited
Geodogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead. The church and school are wheelchair accessible.
Please note. It is important that you adhere to any MOD warning signs around. This is a live firing area so please exercise extreme caution and do not stray into areas not designated fit for public entry. Particular attention to this fact is drawn to cachers with young children and geodogs.
The gates to Tyneham village are locked each night at dusk.
There is suggested parking charge of £2, and toilet facilities are available at the end of the car park.
