Derwent Valley Trail #2 Train Bridge. Traditional Cache

Welcome to New Norfolk, In this series you will learn a little about the surrounding areas of our town. These caches will take you in a loop around the upper Derwent Valley, and back to New Norfolk via both sides of the river. Show casing some of the highlights from the very old to the not so old. 13 lucky (or un) caches will lead you to a final cache. All caches have been placed at the safest points possible, and where possible away from any muggle activity.

At the end of the 19th century technology brought forth change. The Derwent Valley Railway was built and opened as far as New Norfolk on the 1st September 1887. On the Rocks Road at New Norfolk, where the train tracks ran parallel with the road the Station Master swung the gates accross the road to prevent traffic flow while the train manouvered it's way around the rock formation (Pulpit Rock). An extension of the Derwent Valley line from Glenora to Westerway was opened on December 20th 1909.
