This cache is an homage to one of our earlier caches named "Ren and Stumpy". The original cache was placed in a stump beside a quiet parking lot. The area was renovated and the stump ground up a month after the cache was placed. Understandably, the cache was thought to be long gone. Several months later we received a message that the cache miraculously reappeared near the original location. BeckiQuilt logged the find and the following message:
LOL - actually this one found us
We were nearby looking for the new cache "Slight of Hand" when a landscaper fellow walked over to us and asked if we were geocachers. He said he had taken a tree/stump down a week or so ago and he said he found THIS inside (as he hands us a small plastic film container with a geocache label on the outside). He said he looked "Geocaching" up on the website and it looked like fun, so he had brought the container back today to place it nearby where it had been found. He said it looked like it was placed in the tree and the tree had grown up around it. I went backwards through the logs and was able to find the name of the cache (even though it had been archived) using Jim32809's log date and then the map and coordinates for where we were. Daughter and I signed the log and placed nearby, though now I guess it's technically too close to the new cache just posted this morning. At any rate, taking the easy smile for this one (though guess I really shouldn't). I placed container back at 36.553 and 23.408 if you want to retrieve. Log was in good shape and container wasn't too damaged. Cache safe!!!!
It's such an interesting story we wanted to share it with our fellow geocachers. Inside the container you'll find the original cache (stump grinder marks and all) with the log. Should be a quick park and grab for most. Please be careful if you need to cross the street as it can be busy in this area. Good luck!
