~~The Warner-Carrillo adobe was thought to be the re-built J.J. Warner Adobe till 1996 when an overlooked court case was brought to light. Begun in 1870 and concluded in 1890, the case settled the disputed land claims of Vicente Carrillo and J. J. Warner and their respective descendents.
The case files included maps and testimony by Juan Warner that clearly placed his Adobe building, destroyed in 1851 during the Garra Indian uprising, North of the Lower Buena Vista creek, while the currently restored and extant building is South of the creek on the Southern Immigrant Trail and the Butterfield Stage Route. For More than 100 years historians and interested parties believed this building was the rebuilt Warner Ranch House. It was the home of Vicente Carrillo.
Vicente Sepulveda de Yorba de Carrillo was a very interesting, enterprising and strong woman who moved her family from the Rancho Santa Ana to Valle de San Jose to begin life as a stage operator and rancher in 1857. That was the same year the contracts were signed for the Butterfield Stage line.
More information may be obtained by visiting the home during OPEN hours Sat. and Sun. from 12 to 4 pm.
