Geocache Description:

This cache is in the mountain village of Kosmas which lies on the South East slopes of the Parnon range between Leonidion and Laconia. The drive itself is very scenic and the village is an ideal spot to break a long journey.

The 30km drive to Kosmas from Leonidion follows the dramatic Dafnon Gorge which in the winter may have water running in the river far below the road. The village itself is famous for its large central square with plane trees and has several excellent tavernas so this is an excellent place to stop for a break. There are chestnut forests close to the village and when in season, these are on sale on the main square. On the drive to Kosmas, it is well worth stopping to visit the Monastery of Elona and its spectacular setting – it is built into the side of Mt Parnon (17km from Leonidion).

The cache is at a church on the outskirts of the village on the road which goes to Platanaki and Aghios Vassileos. This is just a couple of hundred meters from the main square so you can park in the plateia and walk.
