Ballyvoile, County Waterford.
The building of the railway line from Dungarvan to Waterford was a remarkable project in that it had to be contructed over very harsh terrain. A very impressive four-span railway viaduct was built in 1923 over the river Dalligan, on the site of the earlier stone arched viaduct, which opened in 1878. The steel spans sit on tapered pylon piers.
The railway also featured in the Civil War with the stone viaduct at this site being blown up on the 8th of August 1922. The line was seen as so important, that a new bridge was constructed over the following year.
WARNING - There is no need to leave the trail to reach the hide, as there are very steep embankments nearby.
