Geocache Description:

Cache is found in farmlands in East meadows section of Northampton closeby to Connecticut River, usually dusty and/or muddy, 4x4 suggested after rains or during winter.

I placed this cache at a neat spot that is good for stargazing at night, panoramic vistas of Mt Holyoke and Mt. Tom ranges, you can also watch airplanes take off and land at nearby Northampton Airport. Connecticut River nearby for swimming or fishing. Skydivers can be seen jumping out of planes, listen for the plane engine to cut out then start up again, and you can see them plummeting down. Good place for ham radio, scanner, and shortwave listening.

The Summit house is clearly seen, as is Interstate 91. Wide open scenery. Please don't drive in the farmer's planted fields. Corn may grow high in the summer. I used my Magellan SporTrak with WAAS averaging to determine coordinates. You should have no problems locating signal in this open area.

Directions: Exit 19 off I-91 North, Exit 20 South- find Old Ferry Rd directly off of Rt. 9. Look for airport signs near several baseball fields. Follow Old Ferry Rd straight down to Northampton airport. Follow road along airport landing strip. You can pull off the road to the grass area and park to watch planes land and take off. Parking area at airport is at N42 19.611 W72 36.625. Drive/walk straight into meadows, road becomes softer unpaved dirt. Alternate entrance into meadows is on Hockanum Rd off Pleasant St (Rt 5 N/S). People jog and bike in this fertile floodplain.
