I was watching a TV show recently, which inspired me to create this puzzle. The story was about a killer who was leaving bodies at different locations in the city. The crime scene investigators (who all of course look like fashion models and movie stars; maybe because that's what they really are) managed to deduce, with the assistance of the one geeky guy in the group (maybe a geocacher?), that the locations were related to moves in a certain type of game. By reconstructing the game and finding the winning move, they managed to capture the killer just before he was able to do in his final victim. (Apparently they are considered to be good at their jobs as long as they can save the last victim, no matter how many others were killed first?)
Maps and games? How could I resist turning this idea into a GC puzzle?!
All you have to do to find the cache is reconstruct the game I have created, based on the notation below, after a little decrypting. Then determine the winning move, and go to the location indicated by that move. Sadly, that exact location wasn't good for placing the cache container, so you will have to make these adjustments:
- Go to the location (either physically or virtually) that you have determined.
- Note the address of the house on the NE corner of the intersection.
- Subtract that number (divided by 1000 to be more precise) from the North portion of the posted coords.
- Note the address of the closest house on the NW corner of the intersection.
- Add that number (divided by 1000 of course) to the West portion of the posted coords.
- Go get the cache!
