Geocache Description:

This was the dam that the RAF 617 Squadron used to practice their low level flying, before the dam raids.

For a 4 engined Lancaster Bomber it is no mean feat of flying skills to be at 60ft a few hundred yards from the dam

and be doing the correct speed. The flight down from the 200 ft hills on the left would play havoc with any speed control.

There is a commemorative plaque in the Portal next to the road, and a video can be found at..

The cache is located near to the parking area where you can get a good photographic view of the dam.

As with everything relating to the RAF, you need to spuce up your act for best results.
