Improvizaţia


este poate elementul cel mai tipic în muzica de jazz. Forma tradiţională a jazzului seamănă cu ceea ce în muzica clasică s-a numit variaţiuni pe o temă. Se cântă o "temă", o melodie scrisă de compozitor, şi în continuare se improvizează pe aceeaşi armonii. Se naşte deci în faţa publicului o nouă creaţie, a compoziţie momentană al muzicianului de jazz, respectând desfăşurarea armonică a temei care, de multe ori este o compoziţie de jazz cunoscută, un "standard".

Improvization


is the most important part of jazz. Traditional jazz resembles that which in classical music is known as variations on a given theme. One plays a "theme", part of a song written by a composer, then continues on the same melodic line by improvizing. Thus a new creation is born right in front of the audience, a new composition by the jazzman, following the theme, often that of a well known jazz composition, a "standard".
