Geocache Description:

Welcome to New Norfolk, in this series you will learn a little about the surrounding areas of our town. These caches will take you in a loop around the upper Derwent Valley, and back to New Norfolk via both sides of the river, show casing some of the highlights from the very old to the not so old. 13 lucky (or un) caches will lead you to a final cache. All caches have been placed at the safest points possible, and if possible away from any muggle activity.

Shooters Hill oast house was built in 1828 by Josiah Spode, grandson of the famous Staffordshire potter; its oast house is an evergreen with artists and photographers, fitting the classic pattern: hexagonal tower and drying area several stories high – also being overtaken by the elements. Facing west, the oast house stands where the road along the river originally ended on that bank, glowing in the late afternoon light until shaded by its own poplars.

*** Be aware of traffic at all times, road can be very busy ***

***BE CERTAIN YOU ARE CLEAR OF TRAFFIC WHEN LEAVING SITE***
