This year our CITO is at Denham Quarry in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is being run on the geocaching CITO weekend, and thus any attendee will gain a virtual geocaching CITO souvenir!
Start time: 10.00am on Sunday 27 April 2014 at the published co-ordinates, which is the entrance to the quarry site on Moorhall Road. If you run late for any reason then please join us at the work site itself, @ 5 minutes walk down the winding path or along the road/track (see waypoint). Weather permiting, the CITO will be followed by a picnic lunch.
This is a CITO (Cache in, Trash Out) Event and counts as a 'find' (and different icon) for your log of caches - though please remember to sign the Event log book on the day.

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers have been dedicated to cleaning up parks and other cache-friendly places around the world. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources.
We will be working from 10-12 on the Sunday morning in conjunction with Kevin Waggot of the environmental charity Groundwork to help tidy the area. Tasks available will be cutting back buddlia, making habitat piles from chopped wood, and litter picking. This work is needed to help keep the site sustainable for all forms of wildlife, and to make it a pleasant place for people to use and enjoy.
Loppers, saws, litter picker sticks and heavy duty work gloves will be provided, though if you prefer you are welcome to bring your own. Please wear appropriate clothing/footwear for wandering around uneven areas of grass and maybe mud. Kevin will have a first aid box to hand but you may wish to bring your own plasters/medicines if you have any particular allergies.
If the weather is fine we hope that you will wish to stay on to have a bit of a picnic afterwards, when you will be able to admire the difference your hard work has made to the area. Please bring along some food to eat if you wish to do this. (Or of course you can just go home...or go caching!).
There is plenty of free parking along Moorhall Road right by the published co-ordinates. The nearest train station is Denham, on the Chiltern Main Line. Bus U9 runs from Uxbridge tube station to Harefield (nearest stop to the CITO is slightly northwards, on Harvil Road) or Bus route 331 runs between/via Ruislip, Northwood and Uxbridge tube stations, and also stops at Denham mainline station, nearest stop almost opposite the meeting point on Moorhall Road.
Please note that Denham Quarry is a ‘common’/woodland area i.e. it consists of trees and lakes and meandering footpaths, and as such we are afraid that there are NO refreshment or toilet facilities available on site, though there are two convenience stores and a pub all within a 10 minute walk (and/or lots of trees to hide behind if necessary…!!). Please bring plenty of water to drink if it is a hot day. For those who have not yet visited this area there are a range of traditional and puzzle caches nearby, including a series along the Grand Union Canal, which you might wish to do after (or before) the event.
Groundwork has confirmed that children and/or dogs are welcome to come along. However due to the presence of sharp tools and possible nettles/brambles please be responsible in your supervision of them. There will be plenty of little jobs they could do, such as dragging vegetation to the wildlife piles or litter picking.
We hope the sun will shine, and that we will see many of you there. If you have any questions please e-mail us through our profile name above.
