When we originally started Geocaching this was one of the first 'sneaky' geocaches we found. Originally placed by Star-2 it was archived a while ago as he had moved away from the area. This one is a copy of that original cache.
There was a ferry to cross the River Derwent at this point from around 1200, but the first Bridge was erected in 1798 thus adding one ferryman to the unemployed register.
The present bridge is much more recent and is a Grade II listed structure, but Boy Racers are continually trying to knock it down, with varying degrees of success, hence the addition of the modern Armco barriers which do nothing for the aesthetic appeal of the stonework.
Tolls have long been a thing of the past, but perhaps charges should now be levied on people carelessly damaging the structure of the bridge.
Please bring a pen/pencil and a pair of tweezers.
Good luck
