Geocache Description:

Manchester is known for a lot of positive things - from it's fairness and support of gay rights, to the cultural diversity and campaigns for justice - and not forgetting that Manchester was the first city in the world to declare 'nuclear free' in November 1980, dedicated to seeking a world free from nuclear weapons, and is still the proud home of the UK and Ireland Nuclear Free Local Authorities.

The pride of Manchester cannot be contained, and the City Council commissioned sculptures to be made celebrating Manchester's nuclear free status, in 1986, and thus the Peace Gardens were born. 7 years ago, on its 21st birthday, the sculpture was replaced by a newer and not-as-rusty version, although the original footings and base remain in place.

Take a picture with the peace sculpture, doing your best peace sign!
