I have loved Raggedy Ann for over 50 years ! This cache is based on one of the Raggedy Ann Stories. Reading the story snyopsis BEFORE heading out to find the cache, will make the find that much more fun.</
RAGGEDY ANN & THE CHICKENS
One day Marcella put Raggedy Ann on the fence around the chicken coop and told her to sit very still, for if she moved, she might fall in ! While Raggedy Ann sat there, watching the chickens, a humming bird flew by. When she turned her head to look at it, she lost her balance - and PLOP - she fell right down among the chickens.
All the chickens scattered - all except old ironsides - the rooster. He put his head down and ruffled his neck feathers. Raggedy Ann just smiled - she was not afraid of him. Suddenly, the old rooster jumped into the air and kicked her - knocking her over and over. Raggedy Ann jumped up and waved her apron at him saying: shoo, shoo, but she was knocked over again.
Two of the hens raced over to help her. One put herself in between the rooster and Raggedy Ann - while the other one pulled her into the nesting area. They sat her up so she could see. Raggedy Ann said that was a very strange game the rooster was playing - then the hens said: that was not a game - he was fighting you as he thought you would harm the chicks. Oh my said Raggedy Ann - I wish I had not fallen into the coop.
When both hens were in the nesting area, they said they would tell Raggedy Ann a secret if she promised not to tell Marcella. I promise, cross my candy heart said Raggedy Ann. The chickens took her to a far corner and showed her two nests that were hidden there - each one had ten eggs in it.
Raggedy Ann felt the eggs and they were very warm - the chickens told her they sat on them to keep them warm. Raggedy Ann offered to sit on the eggs so that the chickens could take a break to get a drink and something to eat.
While she sat there on the eggs, she heard a noise: pick, pick, pick. She hoped it was not a mouse, and wished the hens would come back because she felt something moving underneath her. Just then the hens came back and saw the puzzled look on Raggedy Ann's face. When she got up off the eggs, she saw little fuzzy yellow balls - Oh My she said - they are hatching !
Marcella came looking for Raggedy Ann and found her by the nests. My Oh, My said Marcella, how did you get in here ? She carried Raggedy Ann back to the nursery and when the dolls were alone, Raggedy Ann told them of her adventure
