While hiking up here with friends I felt this would be a great place to bring geocachers. It offers great views of two sides of this island that most people do not get to see...at the same time and from this advantage point of view. Unfortunately, today was very cloudy so I could not get clear pictures so you will just have to come up here to see it.
You can reach the cache from either The Hawaii Loa trail or the Wailupe trail. I suggest that you take the Hawaii Loa trail as it is much more forgiving and actually closer. You will have to go through a gated community and show your ID at the gate to the guards. They allow access usually from sunrise to near sunset. If you do go later in the day (after 4:30p) I suggest that you ask the guard shack for their number, so if you find yourself taking longer than the expected and coming down from the mountains in the dark, you can call them and let them know you are on your way down...or they may tow your car.
