Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at the above coordinates but below you will find a simple research task that will enable you to work out the numbers for the required location. Enjoy.

Shinty is one of the oldest games in the world and although it bears similarities to hockey, lacrosse and ice-hockey, there are many differences too. In Shinty there are no restrictions on how high you can swing the caman (stick); you may stop the ball with your feet; you can carry the ball on your caman; and you can hit the ball whilst it is in the air. In fact when the ball goes out of play to the side of a pitch the ball is thrown up in the air and hit with the bottom of the caman back into play: a little bit like an over head serve in a tennis match.

Physically demanding and the requirement of a unique alertness make this a hard game to play, as well as being difficult for newcomers to the sport to survive. When children first start out they are required to wear helmets nowadays and usually begin with plastic sticks and soft balls, indoors.

The Glenmorangie Camanachd Cup Knock Out competition is its most famous trophy and the final is always held the first Saturday in June. This final brings in the games biggest crowds of anywhere between 3,000 and 5,000 people attending. The first ever final, way back in 1896 was won by Kingussie, who beat Glasgow Cowal 2-0, in Inverness.

A fantastic spectator sport if you ever get the chance to watch a match, no matter what age is playing, then go along; you will be amazed.
