HELP! Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep. Actually, Vino Venturer lost her GPS. On 3/1/14 I headed out to do some bday caching. I had it all planned out and my heart set on finding 9 caches. Alas, at my 9th cache there was a muggly motorhome which prevented me from achieving my goal. DRAT! I had a couple stops to make on my way home and made a rash decision to make an unplanned side trip and maybe still get my 9th for the day. This has bad news written all over it! I made it to the cache and got the find but in the process I did everything different from my normal routine. Since I was hoping for a quick park n grab I unclipped my GPS from my pack, grabbed a pen, and my keys. At GZ I made another horrible mistake of setting my GPS on a ledge above my head and out of my line of vision. As I rushed to make my exit I grabbed up my keys and pen , looked around didn’t see anything that belonged to me and headed home. The next day was a rainy Sunday morning so it wasn’t until about noon when I realized my GPS wasn’t in my backpack pouch. I looked high, I looked low, I tore apart my car. Suddenly, I had the sick feeling that perhaps it hadn’t made it home with me. After some more frantic searching I decided to check the online posts. I saw one log after me from Hidegoseek and if I had been in my right mind I would have realized he was trying to tell me something. I eventually have the bright idea to email Hidegoseek directly to ask if he had seen any other names on the log or had seen anything unusual. Turns out I didn’t have to because Hidegoseek had long since emailed me saying he thought he may have found something I had lost. I can’t tell you my relief! Not only did Hidegoseek rescue my lost sheep he even offered to deliver it to me the next day. With the assistance of Nylimb my wayward sheep was returned. The slogan says, “You meet the nicest people geocaching!” I am here to tell you that is more than a slogan. Nicer people there could not be. Other than being a bit embarrassed as to the circumstances that led to our meeting I am honored to have made the acquaintance of two people I hold in such high esteem.
Hide is an ammo can at Redwood Fields. Redwood Fields has good parking, bocce, baseball diamonds, and a play area for the kiddies. Park is only open during daylight hours. During baseball and soccer season park is packed so please be stealthy! At 10 am the folks trying to develop the Eureka dog park often meet here. If you like your privacy choose your time wisely. When placing this cache I walked past the GZ heading North along the gravel road then cut back along the Western side trail. No need to forge a trail through the brush. At time of placement I did not see poison oak. Please replace with natural cammo to avoid muggly activity. There is nothing glamorous for the FTF but there is a $1 in the back of the log.
Happy caching everyone! Much thanks to the many wonderful local cachers! I feel very lucky to be among such amazing people!
