Geocache Description:

This a short series of 3 caches placed along a country footpath so you can enjoy a peaceful walk, with the opportunity to see some wildlife in their natural habitat, whilst also enjoying some nice views along the way. The footpath can become rutted in places in dry weather, and very muddy after rain, therefore maybe unsuitable for wheelchair users and all terrain buggies etc.

From the footpath you can see Charborough Tower and Stag Gate, both are famous Dorset landmarks.

Charborough House & Tower.

Charborough House dates back to 1086 when it was a royal manor to King Harold.
The house was destroyed by royalist troops in the 16th century in retaliation to the assault on Corfe Castle. Only the foundations and cellars remained. It was rebuilt by Sir Walter Erle, commander of the Parliamentary forces which besieged Corfe Castle in 1646, (stone and timber taken from Corfe Castle were used in the building).
The house and grounds are surrounded by one of the longest walls in England built from more than 2 million bricks.
Charborough tower was built around 1790 is over 100ft high and has 161 steps.
The current occupier is Richard Drax, the Conservative Member of Parliament for South Dorset.

Stage Gate, Charborough Park Dorset.
Charborough Park is surrounded by one of the longest brick walls in England built between 1841 and 1842.The wall runs alongside the A31 and is punctuated by "The Stag Gate" (notorious for appearing to have five legs) at the northern extremity and the "Lion Lodge" at the eastern most entrance, Apparently from the house (Charborough Park) the 'Stag' looked like it only had three legs , so an extra one was crudely grafted on to give the appearance of four!!!

A parking waypoint for a couple of cars is provided.

Congratulations to KennyG620 fot FTF!!!
