Yet another wander along the South Branch. Wildflowers were out in full force this afternoon, hence the cache name. There's multiple ways into this one, so I'll leave it up to you to decide where to park. You can even hop on the bike trail in Pittstown if you're caching by mountain bike. The trail from Pittstown will take you right to the cache. The cache is off the trail about 40 feet, hidden in the bowels of a huge sycamore tree. Cache container is a standard 50 Caliber Ammo Can. (Actually, its a fuse can, but it's just a stencil difference). This one starts out well stocked...
Initially, the cache contains the following:
- The Cache Log
- Borscht Soup mix (2 Packs)
- A map of Hacklebarney State Park.
- A copy of Machievelli's "The Prince"
- An X-10 3 way wall switch
- A disposable camera (Please take your picture)
- Some Crayons
- Some Sticky Darts
- Assorted Teas
- A New York City Corrections Emergency Services Unit back patch
- A Hitachi Data Systems Screwdriver Set
- "Ally's Traveller" Travel Bug. (Send it South).
- A HUGE Sharpie marker. Please sign the inside of the can lid, as well as the log book.
If you've got fishing gear, I caught 2 brook trout about 100 feet from the cache right before I dropped it off. Pretty much anywhere on this stretch is good fishing. Mind the Mosquitos and Deer Ticks during the summer and fall. If its rained recently, wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy. The trail itself is very good, but it does get muddy during the wet seasons.
