Geocache Description:

I love a sunburnt country

A land of sweeping plains

Of ragged mountain ranges

Of droughts and flooding rains

I love her far horizons

I love her jewel sea

Her beauty and her terror

The wide brown land for me.

Dorothea Mackellar OBE 1885 - 1968 was born in Point Piper Sydney and spent her youth in and around there. Her father and brother bought property around Gunnedah and young Dorothea would spend holidays on the family properties quite often. Kurrumbede and The Rampadells both owned by the family are located around 18 - 20 kilometeres north of here on the Blue Vale Road. It is believed that nineteen year old Dorothea wrote My Country while on the property. She was awarded an O B E two weeks before she died in 1968.
