As kids we always knew this woodland as Sherriff’s Wood, but it is better known as Sherriff’s Walk. The area was presented to the public by G H Pattinson who was a former High Sherriff of Westmorland, hence the name.
The starting co-ordinates are for a small parking area, (about 4 cars)
Follow the footpath towards the wood.
Once in the woodland pick up the fire tacks and follow them to a cluster.
Caution is needed near the beck especially during high water!
When you find a cluster of fire tacks, you will find the cache really close by.
When checking this out with my wife as guinea pig we did come across a further cluster of “eyes”, she freaked out when we realized they were deer!!
Remember you will need a strong torch, preferably a head torch, take some spare batteries and maybe a spare torch!
Finding your way back shouldn’t be too much of a problem! Use your GPS. Try to take a picture of your adventure.
