As always, please keep an eye out in the four-state metropolitan area for upcoming events. If you have an idea for an event location PLEASE do send me a note through my profile. I'm always on the lookout for great locations.

Geocache Description:

It's time for another event in the Four State area! This time, we are celebrating Maker Madness. All attendees of a Maker Madness event celebrating the geocache hiders and makers will get a Maker Madness souvenir for their profile! From March 28th - April 7th, 2014 geocachers around the world will join together to celebrate the people in their community who make geocaching possible.

What is this event you ask? Well Groundspeak has come up with the Maker Madness Souvenir to award to anyone who attends one of these events. Why would they do this? Well, they would like to recognize all the hiders out there that place caches for others to find. This event will be about discussing your favorite cache that you've found, who hid it and why you liked it. We'll also talk about your favorite cache hider and why they are your favorite hider. Whether your favorite cache is a traditional, a puzzle, a virtual or a multi take some time to think about it and come on out and share!

As cachers, we all have caches that will forever be etched in our memories, as well as the hiders that placed them there. Ones that stand a grade above the rest due to their creativity and uniqueness. I know this is certainly the case for me, as these exceptional caches and cacher hiders always bring a beaming smile to my face no matter what my mood. After becoming a hider myself, the perfect placement, cleverly engendered, creativity, and planning behind each and every one of these caches has only become more and more appreciated. Great caches, that seem as if the place was designed for the cache rather than the other way around. Such caches are no easy endeavor to create, and require a certain labor of love, but it is only with that extra effort that beaming smiles may be placed on all who find it. This has always been my desire when I create and place caches, and certainly is the desire for this event as well.

From the Geocaching Blog:

"Finding a great geocache can make for an awe-inspiring adventure, but those adventures do not magically appear on their own. They are concocted inside the brilliant mind of a Geocache Maker. This crazy thing we call geocaching would simply not exist without the people who channel their creativity and innovative spirit into making great experiences for others.

From March 28 – April 7, geocachers around the world will join together to celebrate the people in their community who make geocaching possible. We call this celebration Maker Madness.

We’re calling all Geocache Makers (and folks who want to celebrate their favorite Makers) to host events to celebrate geocache creation and to inspire the next generation of geocache makers. Anyone who logs an “Attended” at a registered Maker Madness event will earn a Maker Madness souvenir."

Let's get together for a couple hours and share those experiences. Which cache was your favorite? Do you have several of them? What was special about them? What kind of creative ideas do YOU have, that you're willing to share? If you're an experienced cache hider, what kind of unique camo techniques to you use, and what tips can you offer newbies for their own creative hides?

Feel free to bring an example of a creative cache container that is of your own design, or one that you purchased at retail. It can be one you've already placed, or one that hasn't been placed yet.  If you bring an existing cache however, be sure to temporarily disable that cache listing and indicate that cachers can NOT log a find on it while it is at the event

Be sure to log a "Will Attend" so we know how many to expect.  As usual, you're responsible for any and all of your personal food / drink expenses.

Please join me in celebrating all of those who are Makers:

Extra things to keep in mind:

Conversely, before leaving with a trackable you didn't bring, please check with the person who's dropping it off. Any trackables still in inventory after two weeks will regrettably be marked as missing by the CO.
