Geocache Description:

NOTE: On "cruise ship" days you may have to pay an "entrance fee" of $75 Mx Pesos to get to the geocache location. However, on non-cruise-ship days, you can get to the geocache location for FREE. On non-cruise-ship days, if you want to explore the rest of Xcambo ruin site, you have to drive down the road a little bit and pay your fee there.

After grabbing this cache, continue down the road to the archaeological site known as Xcambo.  This site is smaller than some of the more popular ones, however there is a good possibility that you will have the site to yourself.  You will not be disappointed.  Xcambo ruins has a combination of Mayan ruins, a Catholic chapel and a freshwater spring.   Xcambo was built on marshland and ancient Mayans built a thick concrete foundation (approximately the area of 14 football fields) to keep the large structures from sinking into the marsh.  This was amazing, considering that occupation of this site dates back to 150 BC to 300 AD.    Visitors are allowed to climb and explore the Xcambo ruins.  There is a minimal charge to enter this site.  Enjoy

CONGRATULATIONS to Cdh32 & Jab78 for the first to find during your Mexico cruise vacation. It was certainly a pleasure showing you the sites of the "real Yucatan". If you are visiting Yucatan, MX and need assistance driving to Geocaches, note that Yucatancenote.Com offers Geocaching Adventures . . .check them out.
