Raoul Fergenendez was the original member of the well known Fergenendez clan. The story goes that he was from the Basque region of Northern Spain. He arrived in Ireland as a part of the infamous Armada and was shipwrecked off the Donegal coast and, fortunately, made it to shore on Bundoran beach. The language here being somewhat confusing, he thought he was coming to prime land near Derrygonnelly, which is a kind of oxymoron.
