Geocache Description:

Welcome to #1 in a series of 15, all (or almost all) set near stumps.  Each is either an Rx bottle wrapped in tape, or an infant formula bottle - somewhat larger - also in tape.

I went out again today on the trail of my arch-nemesis, GC49EBR (AZ Views – Ponderosa), one I’d already hunted for three times with no success. And today was no different. But to ensure a fresh view of things, I snuck out along Babbitt Rd, walked under I-40, around the pond and took the trailhead from there. I walked. One could do most all of this on mountain bike; many caches being close enough to trails such that you might skip chaining-up while running off to locate the cache on foot. The first ¼-mile from the Trail Head is steep, but counts for little out of the 3-miles or so to the last cache. That steep beginning is followed by a curving downslope with a mini-waterfall/escarpment feature at the bottom – could make for quite a shock on a bicycle, so BE CAREFUL!
Here’re some other coordinates that may be of interest:
- I parked at N 35 11.330 W 111 37.845
- Trailhead (sort of) begins here: N 35 11.011 W 111 37.851
Every time I hike in this area, I find myself crossing a labyrinth of trails with no map guidance and no idea where they lead. Most head toward Lake Elaine or various points along Old Walnut Canyon Rd. In this series, there are two areas where your GPS will lead you across or around from one trail to another.
