Here is a Series of Caches for us for you all to enjoy !!
After coming here to the woods and finding a nearby cache we thought we would extend the walk and then thought why not make a series, so we did !!!
HISTORY -: Mildridge woods are these days much used for Coppicing but in times gone by they had much different uses.
During the 2nd world war there were many Nissen huts scattered among the trees, hosting troops and many army vehicles all parked up in readiness for the D-Day invasions. You can see the remains of some of the Nissen huts between caches #2-#3.
At cache #6 you will see the old ruins of Whitley Mill and its mill pond, this was a water powered mill using the very fine water coming from a spring a little way up the valley at Spring Head, Then at cache #11 is an Emergency water supply structure again used to hold fresh water for the troops during WW2.
Off you go then hope you all enjoy the walk around these woods. !!
The series will take you up hills and down again around a circular route of just over 2 miles
Please return the caches as you found them so the next Cacher can enjoy the challenge too.
Thank-you and we look forward to reading your Logs.
Happy Caching from team Philatryewood
