Geocache Description:

Yass is commonly known for the highway and fine wool, but an important part of the town is electricity transmission.

In the late 1950's and early 1960's, a new 330KV (330,000 volts) substation was built at Yass to distribute power from the new Snowy Mountains hydro electric scheme. This was the first major use of this voltage in the state and required new facilities to be built. It revitalised the town and created a housing boom, bringing many new families to the town (including mine)

In this general area you will see many of these power lines going to the Snowy Mountains, Canberra, Marulan & Sydney. Smaller lines (132KV) go to Murrumburrah, Burrinjuck, Wagga, Cowra, Goulburn & Queanbeyan.

The cache is placed close to the '39' power line that goes from Yass to the Sydney West Substation at Eastern Creek. There are some nice views in the area - it is well worth going down Zouch Road for a look!

Please be careful parking. It may be safer to park away from GZ and walk back.

Please replace the cache as found and cover.
