The town of Zrnovci, the Plackovica Mountains, and the Zrnovci River.
This cache marks the beginning and end of a three hour walking tour of the town, and up the river, showing our unique way of life and landscape. There will be several more caches placed at points of interest along the way.
The park is next to the river and was originally the site of a water powered grain mill. It is centered around a memorial to the partisans of World War II who liberated this area on the fifth of August, 1944.
The area is agricultural with many small farms. Horses and donkeys are still commonly used to plow fields, haul crops, and bring firewood down from the hills. There are many old Turkish buildings made of rock and mud brick in use: all have red tile roofs.
A person without a car can find this cache easily by taking a bus or train to Kocani, eight kilometers away, and then a bus or taxi across the Bregalnica River to Zrnovci.
We will keep the cache stocked with these cute little badges and a map of the region. Feel free to stop in at the Obstina (Municipal building) and ask for Gary, or Blogoj. We are friendly, and speak both English and Macedonian.
