Pennsylvania is #2 in the number of Federal Prisons in a state and has 28 State Prisons. There are also numerous State Youth Prisons and County Prisons.
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and its Inmate Work Crews help beautify and clean up Pennsylvania as part of the "Great Pennsylvania Cleanup". Corrections will send Community Work Program crews of 10 "minimum-security inmates" and a trained labor foreman from the State's prisons to pick up trash alongside roadways across the state five days a week, weather permitting. This program allows inmates to give back to the community while helping to beautify this great state.
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections "Community Work Program" was started to provide inmates with an opportunity to learn a skill and to give back to society. Since the program's beginning, Corrections has helped organizations and state agencies save $18 million by performing duties that otherwise could not have been completed due to a lack of funding or manpower.
