The trail also called Carlton Trail, Victoria Trail and the Saskatchewan Trail stretched for 1400 km. from Winnipeg to Edmonton.
Before the railway came to the West in the 1890s and even afterward for those who could not affoed the freight or fare of trains or steamers the trail was the best way to reach Edmonton.
The trail passed by here and then headed down the slope to reach the site of Fort Edmonton.
