Geocache Description:

You are looking for a small container outsider the boundaries of the church.  The co-ordinance are to be found within the church grounds by working out 4 clues.  Parking can be found near to the church.

St Mary’s Church Naughton is located next to the village green.  Here lies the village pond and once the village stocks. Numerous old cottages lie around or near to the green.  The church tower contains one bell, it’s companion was sold in order to pay for repairs to the tower nearly two contraries ago.  The event was commemorated in a verse:

“Naughton poor people

Sold the bell to build the steeple”

The position of the font is situated in an unusual position as it is located in an alcove against the north wall.  The altar-tomb records the death in 1748 of Edmund Stubbing, gentleman, the patron of the living.  The Manor of Naughton-once held by the D’Autreys has always been included in that of Nedging, the original description being the Manor of Nedging and Newton, which became Nawton and now Naughton.  It is because of this that the history and present day life of Naughton is interwoven with Nedging.

f anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
