     The Great Dane is Pennsylvania's State Dog. It is a large, short-haired dog that is very active, affectionate, and alert. This majestic dog was bred about 2,000 years ago to hunt large game, like boars.The Great Dane is a large, long-legged dog that is about 30 to 32 inches tall at the shoulders. It weighs about 100 to 120 pounds. This lean dog has long thighs, muscular legs, a strong, deep chest, a flat skull, and a wide, blunt nose. The tail is long and tapers to a  point.  The short, dense coat comes in many colors, including brown, black, blue-black, and harlequin (white with black patches).
