     The first baseball stadium opened in Pittsburgh in 1909. The stadium was named for John Forbes, a British general who captured Fort Pitt during the French and Indian War. The stadium at Forbes Field was home to the Pittsburgh Pirates until it closed in 1970. The first game played at Forbes Field was between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the Cubs defeating the Pirates 3-2.
