Geocache Description:

Geocaching with my granddaughter, Selah, often involves frequent mention of snakes, especially when holes or burrows are spotted along the trail. Today's geocaching adventure on the island near Plymouth, Washington, did not yield any sightings of snakes, but it's still a delightful recreation area. Enjoy the series of dinosaur-theme caches, then thread your way through the sagebrush to find our cache named in honor of my granddaughter and her fascination with snakes.

Easy parking near Dinosaur 1 (GC27Y42). Wend your way through the series of dinosaur-theme caches and then head for this cache. If you head directly for it from Dinosaur 4 (which is what we did) you'll find yourself needing to bushwhack a bit. If you take a bit more roundabout way from Dinosaur 4, heading roughly for Dinosaur 6 (which is what we did not do) you may be able to stay on relatively clear ground...maybe. Anyway, we've loaded the cache with several trade items, but please...DON'T TAKE THE GLASS VIAL! The Snake-In-The-Bottle is meant to stay with the cache, as a pleasant reminder of the beauty and mystique of Serpentes.

Again, please, do not take the snake in the bottle! I've replaced the cache container, and it contains some trade items and several toy snakes. Find a tabasco hot sauce bottle and make your own snake-in-a-bottle!

Be aware of ticks! The way of least resistance is your friend on this island. Be prepared to zigzag carefully through the sagebrush, following swales and open areas. There are some unavoidable spots in which you'll need to carefully push through some sagebrush, or at least step carefully past. I picked up one tick yesterday, but spotted him before he'd gotten too attached in our relationship. Check yourself carefully after your day spent in the wild!

Plan on spending a day here...it's a great place. Wildflowers in the spring, shady copse of trees, spots to fish and picnic.
