Geocache Description:

I’ve spotted piggies on this trail almost every time that I’ve come to hike up Olomana. They are usually scurrying about and running off into the bushes on the lower part of the trail before reaching the intersection heading up to peak one. I’ve never been scared of seeing piggies on the trail. I come across them often while out hiking. They are always more scared of my presence and they usually dart off into the shrubs before I can even get a good look at them.

However, on March 26, 2014, I had a run in with a certain mama pig while hiking up Olomana. But this mama piggy was not down here where this cache is… She was UP THERE between peaks one and two where “Olomana Cache Only” (GC4JBN5) was placed. She was just being a good mama protecting the cutest little piglets I’ve ever seen. But when an angry mama pig comes charging at you, I did what any other cat would do… I jumped up into the nearest tree!! After spending well over 30 minutes up in the tree, I strategically made my escape by screaming at the top of my lungs and making a run for it while mama piggy came charging after me. Well… the full story is more entertaining... If you want to read the extended version of my encounter with this mama pig, you’ll have to read my log entry for GC4JBN5 dated on 3/26/14.

But I did make it off the peaks of Olomana without any injury from angry Mama Pig. It was one of the most adrenaline pumping experiences I’ve ever had while out hiking and caching. And in hindsight (since no cacher or animal got injured), the whole ordeal was pretty darn hilarious.

This cache was placed for all those piggies running amok out here on Olomana. Since hunting is not allowed in this area, you can bet that all this bacon is just going to keep reproducing! You may see piggies scurrying about down here while hunting for this cache. But don’t worry; they will most likely run away. As long as they don’t feel threatened by your presence, they will leave you alone.

Please don’t try to come here at night when the golf course is closed.

The guard will let hikers in usually by 6:00am, or when the golf course opens.

Be sure to stop and say hi to the guard on your way up.

Be careful, the trail can be really muddy and slippery on rainy days.

Should an angry pig come charging at you, please don’t throw my cache at it.
Instead, use one of the many nearby rocks.

Be sure to re-hide the cache well so that it can’t be seen and won’t slide out.

Insect repellent is highly recommended.

And as always, have fun. It’s what geocaching is all about.

Oh, and leave the log container in the cache. Yes, the log is in there...

Aloha Olomana Hikers, Just FYI, beginning on Monday, February 29, 2016, Olomana hikers will no longer be allowed to park along Loop Road, which leads to the trailhead. Nor will people be allowed to drive up/down Loop Road to drop off/pick up hikers. Instead, hikers must park in the Maunawili residential area and walk in to the trailhead. This is an awesome hike and I hope these new parking regulations don't deter people from heading up the trail. I will update the cache page as necessary if these parking regulations change. Happy caching!

Congratulations, Skotlee, on the FTF!
Glad you didn't run into any mama piggies this time!
