A brewery was founded in Saint Marys in 1872. The brewery has brewed beer continuously since 1872 and is one of St. Marys’ longest running companies. The brewery depends upon the mountain water from the Laurel Run Reservoir to blend with all-natural ingredients of cornflakes (used to produce fermentable sugars), barley and hops. "Their brewing process is virtually unchanged" since their great, great, grandfather perfected it in 1872. The brewery is one of the oldest breweries in the United States and one of the few still owned by the original founding family. Keeping to the family legacy has allowed them to persevere through the years to become the second oldest brewery in Pennsylvania after a Pottsville brewery. It is also the smallest pre-Prohibition brewery still in business in the United States.
This brewery is reportedly the last remaining users of returnable, "Long-Neck" bottles in the United States. The Brewery is home to the Eternal Tap, which has not been turned off, giving free beer to customers in good times and bad.
