Geocache Description:

TRT #6

This cache is at the southern end of the 15km Tongariro River Trail - an enjoyable 3 hour loop walk or 1 hour bike ride to the Tongariro River/SH1 road bridge (and cache GC54GDQ) at the northern end.

The trail was improved in 2013, rerouted and resurfaced in places to be suitable for easy mountain biking (for casual riders rather than enthusiastic adrenalin junkies).

It isn't necessary to cover the entire trail as it can be split in two at the Major Jones bridge for a 2 hour circuit walk heading south, and/or a separate 1 hour circuit walk heading north. By bike, the entire trail including both circuits can be covered in about 1 hour.

If you look down while crossing the bridge, you could be lucky enough to see trout in the pool below.

Signal strength under the tree canopy can be variable, but the hint should make this a straightforward find.

Please replace the cache carefully out of sight of muggles. If possible, please also cover the hide with some leaf litter for extra protection because scrub-cutters occasionally scalp the surrounding undergrowth which exposes the hide somewhat. The cache has already been gone missing once, possibly as a result of such exposure.

The cache is a small (about 100ml) plastic pill bottle containing just a waterproof log sheet so you'll need to BYO pen.
