I've been lucky enough to visit Auckland 3 times; twice to cache. Most recently was a visit in December 2013 to Albany to try to clean up a few of the caches hidden during their Mega festivities of a few months prior.
Two of the couples organising the Mega I had met on my prior visit; FMZ and rosmar - 2 huge contributors to caching in NZ. Through contact with them and from prior cache finds in Melbourne and Auckland, I stumbled upon Glyn. With 827 cache hides he's a legend. While there are obviously a few mint tins and sistemas among his hides, there are also a few hundred top quality camos. During my first caching trip to NZ, I had a huge night caching adventure on the North Shore with rosmar and IndianaJill. The sole purpose for the choice of location to cache was to showcase the best of Auckland caching through Glyn's hides.
During my December trip to Albany N.Z., I was fortunate enough to stay with Glyn and his family. It was over late night chats about my day's caching exploits that I was able to discover the gentle man behind the huge number of hides. It was therefore, even more disappointing that when he'd visited Perth in 2013, I had left it too late to publish an event to celebrate his visit (NB - 2 weeks to publish an event!!!). He hid a cache during his visit, nothing flash, just a standard magnetic mint tin, in a stunning park. Only problem, the park is too far from my house to commit to maintaining it, so I eventually collected the cache and moved it closer to home.
I often drive or ride past a mural. I am not very artistic, but street art has always appealed to me. This mural has sadly seen better days but, especially from afar, I find it strangely appealing.
Parking waypoints have been provided since the cache is hidden along a main road. So please celebrate the magnificent contribution that Glyn continues to make to caching by coming to find his cache. Enjoy.
