Geocache Description:

From 1972-2007, a total of 1,060 fires were identified in Murray Sunset National Park. There were 16 fires which were each greater than 10,000 ha. 3 of these burned over 100,000 ha. Large fires occur mainly during summer, caused by lightning strikes.

Some areas have been unburnt for over 100 years.

A combination of bushfire and planned fire ensures all stages of vegetation and habitats continue to be present in the National Park.

Cache is an ammo box, containing items relevant to signage at Stop 7 on Pioneer Drive.

There are multiples of some items - feel free to take if there is more than one eg. stickers for kids, keytag

A flat walk east across sparsely vegetated ground.

If you are camping, take a portable radio and tune into local radio stations for weather and fire updates in the Murray Sunset National Park area and surrounds. Monitor conditions with updated bushfire information from the Victorian Bushfire Information Line: 1800 240 667. Vehicles should not be driven over dry ground vegetation or parked on dry grassy areas, as this may be a potential ignitions source for fire.
