Geocache Description:

Although named after an American Revolutionary war hero David Wooster, this park is in a still vibrant Italian neighborhood. Steps from Pepe’s and Sally’s, two of the most famous pizza places in New Haven, this little park is steeped in history. Originally near the harbor, the area became a summer retreat for the wealthy. In the late 1800’s, Italian immigrants populated the neighborhood and that influence continues today. The park is full of Japanese Cherry Blossom trees, which are a big draw in spring. Also, in the park is a tribute to Christopher Columbus, a stone sculpture, and a dog fountain. St. Michael’s looking over the park is the first Italian-American Catholic church in Connecticut, but started out as a Congregationalist church then a Baptist church and finally became a Catholic church in 1899. Short-term parking is available all around the park.
