This cache was placed with special permission of the Hancock Historical Museum in Findlay, Ohio. As it is on museum property, caching hours are limited to 8-5, Monday through Saturday (caching hours do not match museum hours so do your homework). The cache is assessable without admission or entry to the museum. Absolutely no night caching with this one.
To find this cache, you will need to learn about a historic bath tub that resides within the museum. On display within the museum, is the bath tub of Captain Charles S. Sigsbee from a historic US Navy ship. You must find the name of the ship (the USS ?) and use the puzzle below to determine the missing digits for the latitude. Second, you must find the year that the ship was sunk, and add it to the provided number to complete the longitude coordinate.
Latitude:
N 41° 02. XXX
Find the name of the ship from which the captain’s bath tub was recovered. Using only the name of the ship (not the U.S.S. part), add 48 for each consonant and 58 for each vowel.
Example: USS NAME
N A M E
48 + 58 + 48 + 58 = 212
Longitude:
W 083° 3 X.XXX
Find the year that this ship was sunk. Take the year and add this to 7467 to complete the last four digits of the longitude.
Congrats to cachert12 for begin FTF! Good luck and happy caching!
