Darkies Dip

Although the pond has now been  back fllled, you can see the shadow from where it used to be in amongst the undergrowth.

I have memories of this being a very deep scary pond when we as Hilbre School children were taken to Acres Road ground to be tought PE (football) on the field, usually in the depth of winter 1975/1976. The reality of the situation was it was more than likely no more than a big puddle.

Those of us who "forgot" our kit were just left to do our own thing .... in our case we were just left to go wandering round the field and the Dip. Some of the trees still standing I can remember.

Many stories of ghosts and from people that have succumbed to the terrors the Dip were banded around and the very name "darkies Dip" used to put the frightners on us impressionable eleven year old football truants.
