Katarapko Lillies Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

I discovered these beautiful giant Gymea Lillies while on the island.
You will only find these flowering between February to late March and they are quite a sight in the middle of the sandhills, it's a shame not all finders will see them all year round but it's really worth trying to do the cache in late summer or early autumn.
Welcome to beautiful Katarapko Island - part of the Murray River National Park that includes wetlands, creeks and great landscape.
No vehicle access if approaching from Loxton, you will require a boat if approaching from here or alternatively you can swim over if you want to.
One wonders how these lillies came to be here? Was there an old homestead here in days gone by and this part of an original old garden? I think it's more likely that flood waters brought the bulbs here, whatever the reason they were a surprising and wonderful sight to see.
You are searching for a fruit container with a log book, pencil, swaps and a FTF prize.
Please replace as found and enjoy all the island has to offer, it's a great walk around with all manner of birdlife and a variety of kangaroo species.
You will also see a large fenced area that is an old Aboriginal burial ground so in respect please keep outside it's boundries.
