Geocache Description:

A rest stop on Kansas Hiway 50.

This rest stop was originally going to be the Mabel Montgomery Park. It is the site of my grandparents farm. They lost it all in the drought and dust bowl period of the 30's. The house has been long gone, but the silo still stands to this day. I remember as a kid in the 50's when our family got together on memorial day we would all go to this place and have a picnic. It is a very nice rest stop.

Mabel was a very strong women. She had 14 living children, one that died at birth and she died while giving birth to the 16th (who also died) in 1939. She was known in the area as someone that would always provide a meal for anyone that came by at meal time. I guess with 16 mouths at the table an extra one or two didn't really matter.

I placed this cache in April 2002 when I was in the area doing some genealogy. It is a round plastic jar with a dark blue lid.

No, the couple of items in the cache with the Montgomery name are not mine (key rings and a scrapper). They are my uncle's. This was his home in his early days. He probably does not know what this game is all about. But I thought some may find it interesting to be able to take an item from the cache that had the name of someone that lived here. PLEASE ONLY TAKE ONE OF THOSE ITEMS PER FIND. They should be the reward to the first three finds.

Enjoy.
