During the summer months this river trail is teeming with mosquitoes and other flying pests. You should prepare by using repellant and wearing long sleeves and pants. You could ride your bike really fast, or run at a quick pace and the mosquitoes won’t be able to land on your skin (try that without sweating). But then you can’t stop to find caches.
Or, you could bring several of these guys and send them ahead to clear the way.
I recommend travelling this trail in the fall after the first frost. The weather will be cooler and the bugs will be gone. Also, with the leaves on the ground it will be easier to look through the woods to see the lay of the land and the river.
