This geocache has been hidden at one of the places where in the winter and spring you can see many thousands of Dumfries and Galloway’s geese. Of the six species of geese Mersehead regularly has spectacular flocks of barnacle geese, pink feet and greylags as well as many other ducks and waders.
Mereshead Nature reserve is an important part of the Solway European marine site. The reserve has a mosaic of habitats which includes intertidal mudflats, sand dunes, saltmarsh, grassland, woodland and arable farmland
Thank you to the RSPB, not only for this wonderful place but for giving Dumfries and Galloway Council Rangers permission to place this geocache at Mersehead and some special RSPB goodies. If you are lucky enough to find a token in the cache pop into the Visitor Centre and they will exchange it for something nice.
You don’t need binoculars to see the geese and other birds but if you have some it will make your geocaching experience even better.
