Geocache Description:

ANOTHER CACHE IN THE VILLAGE SIGNS SERIES.

The village name derives from the earlier form "Pottern" which refers to a place where pots and pottery were made. "End" is an old term common in Hertfordshire defining any outlying settlement in a far corner of a parish or manor.

The geography of Potten End is such that most of the village is situated on a plateau of land extending from Ashridge to the north and rising from the valleys of the River Gade to the east and from the River Bulbourne to the west. The Green lies at a height of 172 m (565 ft) above mean sea level. Consequently all roads from Potten End lead downhill.  The Hertfordshire Way passes near to the village.

At the start point, in the churchyard  there is a monument to David Newbold Causen born D5th July 1GEF, wounded in Delville Wood in the Battle of the Somme and died the next day F1 July 191B.

Then find the Village Sign which is at N51 46.152 W00 31.683 which happens to be the start point for another cache  GCQBTB Potten End Pictures.
Nearby is a bench presented by Dacorum Borough Council to the Parish of Nettleden and Potten End to celebrate a golden jubilee in DCCD. < Bench is currently missing.!!

The cache can be found at N51 4B.C(E-8)D W00 FC.GBC where there is some parking.

This cache has been notoriously difficult to find . Therefore I have posted spoiler pictures to help those that are struggling.

Congratulations to smokeypugs on FTF

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=52cc3744-888f-4b29-a97b-2b14c01b853d&wid=37b539c6-894c-42d6-bbb6-d2bbd78b220c&ds=2" Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
