Geocache Description:

One of the Wild Goose Chase geocaches. You will be geocaching at one of the best goose watching spots in Dumfries and Galloway. The cache is close to car parking, the Visitor Centre and coffee shop. You are looking for a small plastic box with some trade items in it.

Thank you to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT), not only for this wonderful place but for giving Dumfries and Galloway Council Rangers permission to place this geocache at Caerlaverock and some special WWT goodies. If you are lucky enough to find a token in the cache pop into the Visitor Centre and they will exchange it for something nice.

You don’t need binoculars to see the geese and other birds but if you have some it will make your geocaching experience even better.

With fantastic views over the Solway this centre was created because of the increasing rarity of the Svalbard Barnacle Geese. Look out on the drive to the cache site as in the winter and spring there are often geese in the nearby fields.

WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is a stunning nature reserve where the wild world still has the power to touch, thrill and inspire. Witness year round wildlife spectacles from comfortable hides and secluded avenues. In spring and summer you can wander through wildflower meadows alive with orchids, butterflies and dragonflies. In the winter months - from October to April - Caerlaverock is alive with flocks of tens and thousands of barnacle geese, whoopers swans and other wintering birds.
