Welcome to the village of Yoxford 'The Garden of Suffolk', and the Yox Valley circularish walk. The Name Yoxford is likely derived from Old English for 'yoke ford', that is a ford for a yoke of oxen to cross. The River Yox changes name into the Minsmere further down river and feeds the RSPB bird reserve of the same name.
For newer cachers... Please do not take any caches away, they are to stay in location at all times.
The whole walk is approximately 4.25 miles and will take you both sides of the Yox Valley as well as through the high street of the village its self.
Barn Owls, Buzzards, Foxes, Kestrels, Red Deer, munt -jac, Kingfishers, Marsh Harriers, Greater Spotted Muggles and a whole lot of other rare and not so rare wild life has all been spotted on this walk.
This walk isn't suitable for pushchairs but may be OK for the more determined of people that don't mind lifting over a couple of kissing gates, with all terrain pushchairs it can be quite muddy in places in the winter or prolonged wet weather. We have tried to make it child friendly too, to keep those with littluns interested!, Not many hints on this circular but the descriptions (or lack of) should help you deduce what you are looking for :)
Great walk for dogs although leads will be required in areas due to close by farmlands and crossing roads. Please clear up after your dog, there are bins along the walk.
Picnic area en route to number 11 (Yoxwood) is a lovely place to rest and eat.
If you are planning to do the full walk we recommend you park in front of the church or next to the village shop and take the short walk to number 1 from there, leaving the church micro until last if you wish to hunt for it. But it's also possible to park near caches and start the walk from #2,#3,#5, and #10
So.. onto number 1. BYOET !!!!!!!
This is number 1 of 15 caches, plus there are 2 caches more that are not ours on the walk. You will find the footpath to this cache between the village shop and the gatehouse. This is apart of the walk that isn't so circular, once found, you will need to double back to the A1120 and follow your GPS to number 2. If you carry on about 40 meters up the public footpath before doubling back, you will have a great view of Cockfield Hall.
Please leave no clues or spoilers in the log, we will remove logs that we deem to do so.
We hope you enjoy this walk and leave all as you find it :) You may just see us with our own mutts.
